Israel's Defense Minister Resigns Amidst Political Turmoil
Netanyahu Reverses Decision to Fire Gallanta
In a televised address on Monday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he had reversed his decision to fire Defense Minister Yoav Gallanta. Gallanta, a former general and current member of Netanyahu's Likud party, had been appointed to the post just over a month ago.
Netanyahu's initial decision to dismiss Gallanta had sparked widespread criticism, both within Israel and internationally. The move was seen as an attempt by Netanyahu to consolidate his power and silence potential dissent within his government.
Gallanta's resignation comes at a time of heightened tensions between Israel and the Palestinians. Just days ago, Israeli forces killed nine Palestinians in a raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
The raid drew widespread international condemnation, and it has raised fears of a further escalation of violence in the region.
